What is the better treatment for dog hip dysplasia, Adequan or a supplement like Springtime Joint Health pill?

My 11th Month old Puppy has dip dysplasia and the Vets have ruled out a TPO as he shows signs of arthritis. I need help deciding on what course of treatment to use. Adequan (which is a monthly shot) or a supplement pill like Springtime Joint Health Chewables which contains Glucosamine HCL and Chondroitin sulfate. Also if I go with the supplement does anybody have any recomendations? Please help
He was from the pound but thanks for the heads up.
I have explored the surgical options. He has about 30 % of the ball in the hip. Not very good. He is a lab and will most likely be a 90lb skinny dog. The surgery where they just remove the hip joint and create a fake joint is recommended for dogs under 45 pounds. I have spoke with a vet and he said that he has done it on larger dogs with success but it should be a last resort. Thank You for the help.

    11 months!

What BYB did you get him from? You need to make sure that person isn’t breeding anymore.

For his supplements though, I agree with first poster.

I use Springtime Longevity which has all the ingredients of the Joint Health as well as some other beneficial ingredients and I love it. I have a dog that has arthritis in one of her knees due to a torn ACL and knee surgery and the supplement has completely rid her of any pain at all. She has shown no sign of discomfort since we started using that.

I use a monthly Adequan shot and daily Cosequein DS tablets.
I recommend asking your vet to show you how to administer your own adequine shot. This will save you time and money since you will be doing it for the remainder of your dogs life. The needle is small and goes underneath the skin, nothing to it!
I can tell a DRASTIC improvement when I used both supplements.

You can give your puppy arthritis tablet it can only dull the pain.
There is surgery which can be done, but is very expensive.
I had it done on my dog.
What they do is take the ball off the top of the leg the part that
fits into the hip joint. It does not work all the time it depends who does the operation.
The leg bone is not put back into the socket. The leg is left
for the muscel to heal up around the joint. Thus supporting the
leg.My dog was left with a very lame leg, the opperation is very painful.I know its very upsetting for you.
Did your vet say how bad, they normaly grade them, from 1to 4
If it is a 4 that means the ball joint is not even in the socket.
I am afraid that the out look for your baby is bleak.
I would not opperate rather leave it, and watch your baby.
You can only ask around at your vet clinics.
    For help. good luck

Did your vet tell you how bad it is

Your 11 month old puppy has HD… Call the breeder you got him from immediately and let them know. They will be able to offer advice, a refund, a replacement puppy, something…

I am really sorry you have to deal with HD at such an early age.

i have a 2 1/2 yr old choc labrador who was diagnosed with double hip dysplacia at 6 months old. unfortunately there was not enough socket bone there for her to have hip replacements. she has calcium tablets daily and hydro therapy every 2 weeks. she is in wonderful shape, very healthy and runs about on her walks with my other black lab. her muscle tone is extremely good and i would recommend swimming for your dog every time. best thing i could have done for jessi, shes one very happy, healthy dog.
